Wedding Drinks 101

It’s hard to estimate how much alcohol to buy for your wedding reception, given that each person consumption varies widely. Nonetheless, it is safe to estimate 1 drink per person per hour, or about 5 drinks over the course of dinner. Below are some of the important metrics to help gauge how many bottles of alcohol you should be buying.

Drinking Glasses 101:
A bottle of Champagne fills 6 glasses (8 if the flutes are narrow)
A bottle of wine fills 5 glasses
A 1 liter bottle of liquor makes about 18 drinks
*You will need three bottles of mix for every bottle of spirits

Wine & Beer 101:
A case of wine contains 12 bottles.
A case of beer contains 24 bottles or cans.
Half-barrel keg contains 15.5 gallons fills 200 cups of beer (10 ounce cup)
Quarter-barrel contains 7.75 gallons fills 100 cups (10 ounce cup)

  1. I agree. That’s the perfect list of drinks that must be served at the party. All of these drinks were served at my wedding which was at one of the most beautiful wedding venues. My guests had a great time at my wedding and so did I. And yes! That’s a perfect estimate.
